The 2016 Ohio Winter Storm was a severe winter outbreak.


Meteorological History[]

On January 12 two frontal systems merged over Illinois causing a great frontal system to emerge. The low deepened to 964 millibars and temperatures behind its cold front dropped by as much as 25 degrees. Snowfall in Illinois and Indiana totalled 16" in some spots. It then unexpectedly deepened further to 948 millibars and crossed into Ohio with hurricane force winds around the center of the low, causing blustery conditions and snow rates of 4 inches a hour was occurring in some portions of Ohio. By the afternoon hours of January 14 it exited Ohio and started to rapidly weaken, the system dissipated just off the coast of Maryland.
